Oracle's User Productivity Kit is a simple tool provided by Oracle to capture the navigation or the transaction which the user is to be educated with and reproduce the very same transaction in various formats.
A transaction can be anything starting from applying a leave to applying for a loan through company .
You can capture as many frames as u want ( Just like a camera allows you to capture a picture, this is also very same to use ) .
For ex : In payroll module if you would like to run a Payroll Run process through concurrent Program, then with the help of UPK you can capture the whole process right from the point where the Payroll Administrator logs into the application to running the payroll process and view the results through payroll process results.
After you have captured the transaction ,UPK allows you to edit the process flow captured and reproduce the same process both in animated format and document format.
Animated version will be in following formats :
a) Player Package Format 
b) HTML Web site Format
c) LMS Package Format
d) Standalone Topic File Format
All the above mentioned files can be viewed through a player called “ON DEMAND Player“ which you will be able to use once you have installed Oracle UPK.

h) Output to Test Director
i) Training Guide
j) Instructor Manual
As you can observe UPK provides an option with developing and publishing a single transaction in multiple formats , without wasting much time.

The UPK which u download from edelivery.oracle.com is the product delivered to customers. We can download the upk and use it for self development if you want to use it for commercial use then u need buy licence.

Sorry! That is not Progress bar. It's seek bar similar to the seek bars we find in media players at the bottom. Do we have any chance to embed this seek bar (which will help us to take us to any frame and continue simulation from there) into player.exe file?

Hi Rathan,
I am using Oracle E-Business Suite for accessing a application which is already deployed onto the server. Now i want to provide UPK help for our application. In each page of the application we have created a help link. Our application is developed using Jdeveloper, as said we have provided help links in all the pages with the help of Jdeveloper.
Now the issue is, I want the UPK player content to be context sensitive. If i click help link from a page then the topic name of that relevant page should be highlighted.
For Example: I am in Setup page of the application and if i click help from this page. UPK player should popup with the topic name (Setup) highlighted in the tree of the player.
Could you please help me in achieving this. I have gone through all the pdf files in the documentation section. But i couldn't achieve this.

Hey Rathan, I have a Q for you on UPK publishing. I am with a client who upgraded to 3.1 recently. I am the first consultant who is using this version here for developing their documentation. I am able to develop content but after I publish them, i am unable to execute the 'play' file. The new browser window opens and closes immediately. I have IE v 6 and have turned the pop up blockers off. Can you let me know what you think might be missing with the configuration or installation?

Once u have downloaded the UPK software ,.It will be in zipped file format. Please unzipp the file and once you do that u will find the file in one of the folders. For example i have the unzipped file in my D: Drive so i can find the installation related documents in

Hi, I am trying to install 3.1.7 UPK server for Multi-User environment, and getting "Encountered Problem while populating the Library, Error Code 1"
Oracle 10g database is installed on Linux server. UPK Server installation is being done on Windows 2003 server, connectivity between Oracle and windows server is fine.

UPK Publishing Issue

while publishing (generating final docs in Word fornat) from the recorded file(.odarc), getting an error message "Developer has encountered a problem; needs to close ..." and UPK application closes. This happens with only few files. Could not figure out what is wrong. File sizes with less than 30 MB and near 100 MB are the ones cause the issue. I did publish 30+ MB files successfully. Player Package and LMS packages are getting published, but not the Docs in MS Word format.
If you have any idea or ever come across such difficulty, please let me know a workaround or a solution. Thanking you in anticipation.

I've seen the above mentioned error based on the activity of a 3rd party security application, even when the application was not "active" in the taskbar. Have you tried booting windows in safe mode and then utilizing the developer? It may sound simple but, if that works, it's a 3rd party application causing the issue.

I have installed the trial version of UPK 3.5 Everything works great, except that I cannot get the player to load in my browser. It seems that the player cannot locate the necessary content. I have tried both single user and server/client install with no luck. I cannot find any information on this problem anywhere.

Hi,
I have UPK 3.5 version and IE browser 6.0.2900.5512. After publishing my topic, I clicked play.exe to playback the recording. I find all the playback mode icons (See it, try it,..) are greyed out and so am unable to play it.
Any ideas how to enable the playback icons? Are there any settings in IE that can cause this issue?

Hi,
I'm a big fan of the functionality that UPK has to offer but the licensing options presented by Oracle might not work for our organization (and its clients). My question is, are there any other vendors which have a similar product and function set? I find it hard to imagine that this is the only product available which generates the multiple formats.

Mike and others,
Oracle Licensed the authoring tool from On-Demand Software. On-Demand has the same tool, but with different licensing restrictions. Oracle somehow got On-Demand to enter into an exclusive agreement for the authoring tool. If you use UPK, you can ONLY use it to generate content for Oracle p******s. If you purchase the authoring tool from On-Demand, you can use it for authoring anything other than Oracle p******s. Clever of Oracle eh?

I am using UPK 3.15 for Oracle e-Business R12. I have developed 5 - 6 modules of upk content and am ready to publish to be integrated into iHelp. The DB guys tell me they will only grab the "Published Content" folder, not the "Published Data" folder. In testing, it seems to work fine, but do we need this folder on the webserver for help integration?

UPK IE not working

HI
I am using UPK 3.5, when i try to open .optdc file, a IE browser screen appers for second,then nothing haapens/appers.
Is this a UPK problem or IE setting problem.
I have tried with IE 6.0,7.0.8.0.
I am using this on VM machine. Its working fine on only 1 machine...giving problem on all other machine..
please help...

Can't Install Oracle UPK 3.5.1

Hello,
I'm looking for help with installing UPK 3.5.1. I'm installing the server on a Windows 2003 Server with an Oracle database. Setup runs but the Library is not populated. Here's the error:
Error Gkn.OnDemand.Library.OfflineException: There is a problem with the server configuration.
I have full admin rights to the server...
Please help. I've escalated the case to Oracle support w/no success so far.

While working in the UPK Developer 3.1 , our building lost power several times, now when I log into the UPK Developer, I recieve the following message,
"Root element is missing"
the error details are:

I am trying to play published content on some of the machines at work, and the playback modes are dissabled, while on other machines its running properly. The machine are running on the same operating unit and internet explorer 7.

Pubishing UPK player files to the web

Hi,
We are using UPK to create training materials for a large user base 200,000+ users on both macs and pc's. We are using the- See It, try It, Do it modules and want to distribute the published content over an internet. How do we do this? Ideally without the need for users to download the content to their local drives. Any help would be most appreciated.

I have enabled the Print It mode in the UPK 3.5.1, but when I click it, there's nothing there. The page looks like a bad connection in the internet. Am I supposed to attach a Job Aid file somewhere for the Print It mode to work?

Hi All.
I'm interested to know what environments are are being used to create and deploy UPK content.
For instance are you using a set of servers (application and database) for developing content and then another set of servers
for production for end user viewing.
Using this set-up the content is reviewed approved and moved from development into production.

UPK Mismatch in Screen Resolution

After backing up the UPK(3.1.6) Content in ODARC extension, i tryed to import the content in another machine, the content got opened in editable mode as diseared but new frames can not be inserted in the content file, error saying the resolution mismatch between the content was oraginally created and on your UPK resoution.
Is there any possible methods available in UPK to change the resolution type any make the conten is editable as normal.
Please advise.

Hello friends i noticed in the upk version 3.5.1 the mode presentation is not there. in upk version 3.6.1 the presentation is there but not the HP quality center. I have a single user installation of both versions on two laptops. Is the hp quality center not included in single user installation or am i missing anything here. please can some one throw some light on this.
How do we export the topics from upk to hp quality center. UPK outputs an excell spreasheet which one has to import into say test director or hp quality center. is this the only way or can we integrate upk to test director in any other way.

I have a question, we aretrying to integrate UPK Context Help with Oracle Applications 11i10. I have followed all the instructions described in the InApplication_Support_Guide.pdf document. (For accessing this document please refer to metalink note 1118582.1) However, I am not sure how to setup the system profile option HELP_WEB_AGENT with valid values.

From the above string, what should we replace for http://: ? We have installed UPK Server in a remote desktop. Also, for the dbc file, the dbc file is located under $FND_TOP/secure directory. But, from the above string it is referencing to some local dirve like d:oracleo11iappl nd11.5.0secure.dbc. So, what should be real value here in order to reference the .dbc file from $FND_TOP/secure directory.

Hi Rathan,
I need to create a webpage with Video, Text, and graphics.
So far, I managed to create a package with a html file with the following code:
By linking that package to a Topic, I manage to display the video but not the Text and Graphics together as well.
I wonder if you know some different procedures to do this.

Hi,
I created a set of docs in UPK 3.6.1 and then exported those. Now I am trying to import the same .odarc file in UPK 3.5.1. While trying to import the file in 3.5.1 it says "the import file you have selected is invalid". I would appreciate if you could help.

I had the same issue "the import file you have selected is invalid" when exporting from UPK3.1.6 to 3.6.1. The solution I found was to make a new export file but select the "Export Local Content" radio button instead of "Export Server Content" when doing the export. I also found the doing separate exports for each subfolder in the LIbrary (5 or 6 in my case) and then importing them one by one seemed to work better than just making one large export file. Either way, very unpredictable software. Good Luck

I downloaded UPK 3.6 from edelivery, however i couldn't install it showed me an "Invalid License" error message, that reads.
i - The license file supplied is not compatible w/ the software being installed. Please contact your system administrator the installation will now be cancelled.
Let me know of any way around this issue to be able to install upk succesfully.

I created some UPK modules nearly two years ago and left them on my hard drive. I published them out and moved on with life. Now I need to update them, but in the interim my HD has been replaced. I reinstalled UPK and tried to open the modules but cannot and I cannot find a .odarc file (I don't think I ever exported them, just published them). Is there any way I can open my old content?

I have read the UPK Technical Specifications that the browser is required in IE7/8/9, but I am now have to use IE6 for some special reason, So, is there any way or PACK to solve this problem?
