Introduction

While there are many new features added to the latest release(Release 13 20B) of Oracle HCM Cloud Applications (also referred to as Fusion Applications) one feature which I believe is going to be of immense help is “Extract Failed Lines” feature.

“Extract Failed Lines” feature is a new functionality added where in one can download the failed lines from the “Initiate and Load Data” page by a mere click.

There had been discussions among consultants for long that when the failed lines are already a part of the original data file why is it not possible for the application to segregate the error records and present them as a new zip file which can be re-loaded (after making some corrections). So now starting 20B one has the option of downloading the errored out file lines in HDL Format.

In this post, we will demonstrate how does this works with the help of a worked out example.

 

Worked-Out Example

In order to use this functionality we would need to perform some simple configuration changes which is choosing the right option on “Configure HCM Data Loader” task.

Navigation: Tools->Setup and Maintenance-> Search for Configure HCM Data Loader task and “override” the value of parameter “Enable File Generation for Failed File Lines” to “Extract Failed Lines” as shown in image below:

As a next step we will try to load a HDL file and take it from there.

Navigation to load HDL File is My Client Groups -> Data Exchange -> Import and Load Data

Once we load the local file we should submit the process and we should get a screen as below:

Next we should monitor the load and in case there are any failed records we will get an option to download the failed lines.

From the above image we can see that there are 2 records which has failed. Also, there is an option of “Extract Failed Lines”. We will click on the “Extract Failed Lines” option and when we do that a popup window will appear which will ask confirmation for submitting a job. The pop-up window will appear as below:

Post completion of the process we will get an option to download the Failed Lines file

 

And when we download and extract the zip files we would be able to view the failed lines

Now one can make changes to the file as required and re-try the load.
