This article presents the first and the most basic training/demo to design & build Oracle Worklfows

This specific Audio-Visual Oracle Workflow Training lesson will be the pre-requisite for the next stream of lessons on Oracle Workflows Training.

Please note that Oracle Workflow is a copyright product from Oracle Corp. This training session is for educational purposes only.

Following steps will be covered in the first lesson of Oracle Workflow Training:-
1. How to design & create a Workflow using Oracle Workflow Builder
2. How to start the Oracle Workflow process from pl/sql
3. How to integrate Oracle Workflow with pl/sql for validation and DML etc.
4. How to build Oracle Workflow Notifications
5. How to attach roles/people to notifications in Oracle Workflow

For this Oracle Workflow Training session, lets assume that the requirement is to initiate a workflow, validate it within Oracle Workflow & PL/SQL and then to send a notification.

A Purchase Order  will be created in table xxxx_po_headers.  After inserting a record in this table we will initiate Oracle Workflow. Validation step will set PO_STATUS to VALIDATED.

Please click here for the Audio-Visual Lesson 1 in Oracle Workflows Training
This may take a couple of minutes to load, depending upon your internet speed.

Amazing and Excellent!!!! This is not an exaggerated statement. Even on WORLD WIDE WEB you wont find much training material on oracle workflow and here we have a very, very good material for beginners. Simply, its a pioneering work.

Cons- The speed of the CBT is fast and its better if it can be controlled by user.

Hi Mckan

Right click on the link/line that joins the two function activities in wf diagram. You will see Results as an option after right click. Simply change the result.

If you want a different result set for activity then you should define your own lookup type and lookup codes and assign that lookup type to function activity.

Thanks

Hi Ahmer,

All the errors listed by you pertain to WFSTD. This could be because the access level[as per help menu] at which i saved wft file is higher than that of the components within WFSTD.

You can either bring down your access level in WF Builder via Help menu
OR
You do not save the wft file into database. Instead you should follow step by step instruction to build that wft file yourself.

Hi Sri,
Sorry to hear this happened.

Al though I did warn in FNDLOAD article TO BE CAREFUL when moving around GL Value Sets.
This was stated in http://www.google.com/search?q=site:apps2fusion.com+oracle-fndload-script-examples-2
See note 2 [excerpt below2. Be very careful when downloading flexfields that reference value sets with independent values for GL Segment Codes.
By doing so, you will download and extract all the test data in GL Codes that might not be applicable for production.

What you need to do is to download conc program excluding the parameter with GL Values. THere are partial download options in FNDLOAD[though i am yet to try those in practice]. In real world, one must never move GL codes from one environment to another using FNDLOAD.

are these standard? i.e already part of the workflow. I do not see this on my Workflow builder with 9i as backend. I have it installed on my system as a standalone(i.e I do not have apps installed on my system). Would it still work..please advice? I am referring to lesson1

Hi,

I find the articles here very much useful.
Thanks and Hats off to your effort & help to users on WWW.

I am looking for an information with respect to customizations to Standard workflows.
Can you please give me details on how to customize the standard workflows.

My understanding on the same are as follows:

1. Standard WF objects are created in access level 0
2. Customizations should be done only at level 100
3. Hence, if we try to create some activities at access level 100 and place it in standard process (which will be protected at level 0), it will not allow that to be done.
Hence, can you please suggest how to achieve this??

Appreci ate & would be really great if you could reply me at the mail id given.
Or, would you mind to give me your mail id so that we can discuss on lots of advance & rarely used concepts in oracle workflow which might help both of us to learn more..

Thanks.

Hi Arrk24

You are right, customers are supposed to work at access levels of 100 or above.

You can go to help menu in WF Builder to reduce your level down to say 20 [1 to 19 is used by WF product development team].
But any changes done herewith by reducing your level can be lost by Oracle patches.

Hi Soma

Yes, your changes will be lost, because you are simulating a scenario whereby "Second Oracle WF Patch" overrides the changes done by "First Oracle WF patch"

Also, even if you Check preserve customizations, that will only restrict 1-19 range from modifying. However 1-19 range is not applicable to business related changes to WF

Optio n 1. Check the notification message, and there might be hardcoded HTML Message Text[with reference to some WF Variables]. This option is used for sending small messages, that have mainly static components

Opt ion 2. Check whether WF Notification Message, uses a WF Attribute of type Document
The value of the WF Attribute could be the name of pl/sql package procedure that spits out HTML
In this case, you need to modify that pl/sql package....[not ideal]

Option 3
Check whether WF Notification Message, uses a WF Attribute of type Document that points to a OAF Page. The value of WF Attribute at runtime would begin with OA.jsp?/oracle/ ....webui/..RN& param=xx
In this case, you can simply personalize/ext end the OAFwk region upon which WF Message is based

Hi Anil,

We have a client requirement to set the from clause in the notification to '' so that all users/employees will recieve notification from this email address.

We have custom workflow and have created a custom notification mailer attached to our custom workflow[using correlationid]. In the Message generation,Send , from clause we have specified this email address .
But all our notifications from this workflow are coming with from_user not being populated.

Hi Sharmila

You can attach attributes similar to #FROM_ROLE to change the role.
This will be attached to the Notification/me ssage in WF builder.
Search for # in the dev guide, you will find the list of possible # that can be used to achieve this.

Thanks,

Hi Anil,
can we kick off payables Invoice approval workflow without distribution information(acc ount to charge)?
one of the requirement is to customize the payables invoice approval workflow to request the requestor for cost code(by workflow email)if the invoice doesn't have one. Then AP personnel will put in the cost code(manual process) and validate and resubmit the invoice for approval.but this time it will go through the invoice approval process as it contains a cost code/project code.
thanks for your help. much appreciated

Hi AK,

Perhaps i haven't fully followed this question, but one thing is clear that your users want a facility to enter Cost Code within the email notification.

You can embed a OA Framework region that contains the relevant cost centres from LOV.
Effectivel y by embedding a OA Fwk region, you can make the users enter data via notification, just like they do so from screens.

Hi Anil,

I know it's very late to come and ask something on this Training Part. But I guess I've no other option too...

I've done the steps and all is working fine.

My question is we've defined attrbute send_to_email and are assigning email address to it and same is the case for role. Not which part in workflow will actually send the notification to my Role. As we've just defined the role and I'm not getting which api is sending the notification actually. Suppose instead of send_to_email I define attribute send and will assign my email address to it. Now which api will send the notification.

I hope I am clear in stating where I'm confused. If not please let me know I will write in more detail.

Hi Anil,

I got it. This we are acheiving thru Setting attribute under Node tab of Notification.

Well now I am stuck at one more place

I am working on sending notification from workflow and want to access somewhat below kind of information from table

Order Item salesrep prodmgr
______________ __________
1 1 X P1
1 2 X P2
1 3 Y P1

Now I want to send notification to salesrep and prodmgr seperately based on order number. So below will be some notifications which I'll be sending

Notification 1
SalesRep X
1 1 X P1
1 2 X P2

Notification2
SalesRep Y
1 3 Y P1

Notification3
P1
1 1 X P1
1 3 Y P1

Notification4
P2
1 2 X P2

I am having prob at Notification1 & Notification3 where I have multiple records to be send in single notification and I am stuck at how I can achive this.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

You can but thats not an ideal approach.
You will require access to Oracle Apps Database, otherwise you will have to install standalone workflow patches on plain Oracle DB[which is not unsupported]
