There are three different components of OBIA which integrate together for OBIA implementation are BIACM, FSM,ODI .

For a successful implementation it is important to understand what each component does and what the key factors to understand are. I would strongly recommend to go through “Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Configuration Guide 11g release”. It is very clear and a neatly laid out document. The references for this article are from this guide.

Functional Configurations

As I mentioned in article 1 functional configurations (Functional setups are also called functional configurations.) is an important task at each and every stage of BI implementation since accurate configurations and mappings translate to accurate data on dashboards.

These functional setups, based on either business requirements or on transactional source system settings or configurations, direct the manner in which relevant data is moved and transformed from source database to target database. They also control the manner in which data is displayed.

Functional set up manger is the place where you configure offerings, define an implementation project, assign tasks to BA and SMEs and also complete the task.

Configure Offerings

First step is to configure offerings. Offerings are the different modules you plan to implement in BI. For example in the screen shot you can see modules financial analytics, Human resource analytics, and manufacturing analytics. And the different sources under each module. That is financial analytics has different sources EBS, JD Edwards, People soft underneath it.

Select the offering you plan to implement. If you select only sub module like AP, AR you will get a message stating to select the Offering and the source offering.

First select the financial analytics and then EBS financial analytics 

 Select the submodules. 

Define Implementation Project

Then define an implementation project. Here you select the particular offering and the modules you plan to implement. The implementation project then creates a set of tasks or tasks lists required to configure the offerings.

Name the implementation project

Select the offering for the project

Select the modules you plan to implement. You can also select one sub module at a time.

You have functional configuration tasks for the offering you selected.

Assign Task

You can now assign the tasks to different users (your functional analysts/Subject matter experts) to complete the task

You can also click on a particular task to complete it. For example if you click on task “configure global currencies “ it will open a new window as in the screen 

But  we are not yet ready to configure the task since the domain load is not done.In the next article I will get into details of BIACM.
